Have You Fallen Off the Wagon?
We’re three weeks into the New Year. Some of you started out with great expectations, grand ideas, important goals. Are you on track? Have you fallen off the wagon, hit a seemingly insurmountable wall?
You determined you were going to walk more but got ill. The weather is frigid, too windy, too snowy….
Did you forget one day? Just didn’t feel motivated? Didn’t know how to get started?
Don’t fret.
Our wagons are not like the huge Conestoga Wagon pictured here. Our wagons are more like the red Radio Flyer. Which one is easier to get back in?
I know, I know. Been there, done that, still revisit. Setting goals and keeping to them is hard, but they aren’t impossible if you’ve made them SMART.
It is so easy to get depressed over a glitch in the works. Don’t do it. Don’t let something you can control send you into a downward spiral.Â
How many of us have heard encouragement along the lines of “Don’t worry, it’s just like riding a bike, you never forget.”? You don’t abandon bike riding entirely because you’ve fallen or haven’t ridden a bicycle in a long time.
Sticking to your goals is similar. You don’t quit, you just pick yourself up and start over again. Depending on how long you’ve been away determines where you start back at. But you don’t quit.
Perhaps you need a partner to help you stay accountable. Having someone to cheer you along while you work toward your goal is very wise. Just one word of warning…make sure its encouragement and not caustic hostility.
Never give up, never surrender. You can meet your goals for the New Year.
Do you have tips and tricks for attacking your goals? Would love to hear about how you pulled yourself up by the bootstraps, got back onto the wagon, climbed that imposing brick wall.
