I Broke the Rules
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008I broke the NaNo rules. I’d like to say I’m chagrined, or ashamed of myself…but I’m not.
I’m a serious author and I know my weaknesses. I went to my critique partners after determining where my first chapter would end, and asked for their input.
You’re not supposed to do that.
I did it and here’s why. I’m doing so great at my timed writings that I’ve found myself HURTLING toward my climax, with no real idea how to turn the thing on its head. So, I’ll add my words where my critque partners think I need them.
They had some great ideas, and they will help me meet my goal of 50,000 words.
Doing this isn’t for everyone, and violates the underlying principal of NaNo. But, I’m taking this critique as a way to enhance my story and its word count. I think by the time I go through their comments on the first 3k of my story, I will find that I’ve actually ADDED to the word count.
Attitude. It all depends on how you take that stuff during this intense, creative period.
