The odd part about this, to me, is the definition of vanity/subsidy publishers. Most of the criteria make sense and fit with industry-wide standards for determining what is and is not a vanity/subsidy press. Here's the kicker, though:

"publishers whose primary means of offering books for sale is through a publisher-generated Web site"

Umm, which one of these things is not like the others? A web-centric publisher does not a vanity press make. I find this logically inconsistent with the other criteria, and I think it should be removed.

But if their goal was to kick out the e-pubs, I guess they got their wish!

According to the new definition of Vanity Presses: "publishers whose primary means of offering books for sale is through a publisher-generated Web site" would be included.

This is the broadest definition of any epublisher on the market. Therefore RWA catagorizes all epublishers as Vanity Presses and ineligible for their eligibility.

As an epublished author, I find the RWA is ineligible for my support.
