Blind Date by Lucynda Storey Turns Up the Heat

World of Cyn

September 2008

It’s hard to believe that a month ago it was a scorching 100 degrees here in Denver.  Tomorrow, the high is predicted to be in the 50’s!  What a difference a month makes. But, don’t worry.  There is heat aplenty in my novella release, Blind Date, available NOW at www.AspenMountainPress.comBlind DateYou may remember Sylvia and Travis from Bet Me.

The paradise they found in one another’s arms has hit a rocky patch.  Sylvia is about to give Travis the boot, before he beats her to the punch.  Afterall, his thesis is more important than their relationship and the fact is, he hasn’t even tried to keep the smallest spark burning.  What’s a woman to do??? Why turn to the Internet of course.  And there, Sylvia finds far more than she bargained for.

Did you ever have difficulty in explaining why you enjoy e-Books?  Have you considered the following:

  1. E-books don’t have to use paper.  Not using paper does a number of things including saving trees (you knew that one was coming) and saving the water it takes to create paper.  It’s been shown on several other blogs the only paper that really saves in water usage is recycled paper and that hasn’t been totally embraced by print publishers.  In fact, a large percentage of printed books are returned to the publisher and since that prospect is expensive, those books are stripped of their covers and only the covers are returned to the publisher in order to give the bookstore credit.  What a waste!
  2. E-books save space.  Think about it.  You are a bibliophile.  You have books everywhere, and I do mean everywhere.  They reside on your nightstand, the basket in your bathroom, your desk, your overloaded bookcases, nearly every vertical, flat surface in your home.  E-books reside on your computer or in your reading device.  The space savings is incredible.
  3. Ever take a book on vacation? More than one?  Gets heavy, doesn’t it?  There are a number of readers that can hold 25, 50 or more books.  Imagine not having to carry a separate bag just for reading material.
  4. Lower overhead for e-Books usually translates into lower prices for the consumer.  E-books are cheaper.
  5. E-books are available 24/7.  Feel like a good story, go to your favorite publisher, someone like, say, umm, Aspen Mountain Press and you will be able to buy a book.  No need to wait for a store to open, no need to wait for the postman to deliver.

You may not convince everyone, but each and every time you purchase an e-Book you are making a decision for the future of your families.

Red Hot Excerpt

Plain Brown Wrapper: Blind Date

Another night passed with no visit, no phone call, no email.   Obviously, her place in his life had dwindled to that of occasional bed partner, someone to get his rocks off with.

“I’m not a fucking milk cow.”  Her hotly declared statement added strength to her conviction.  Grandmother Leona had said on more than one occasion while Sylvia was a young teen, “Why buy the milk when you get it from the cow free?”  As a thirteen year-old she hadn’t understood the statement, but she did now.  Maybe it was that damn biological clock ticking, but she wasn’t having a baby out of wedlock, and she sure as hell wasn’t raising a child without a daddy.  Maybe it was old-fashioned, but…well there you had it.  So, no more free milk.

The lack of interest Travis had been showing lately, well, she didn’t need to be a rocket scientist to know the end was almost here.

A chime interrupted her thoughts.  Sylvia hurried to her computer and checked the I.M.  TOC!  Somehow hearing from TOC made her day better; he always made her smile, had done so for several weeks now.

TOC: u there sweet thing?

ST: yes

TOC: up late?

ST: yeah

TOC: something on ur mind?

ST: *shrug*

TOC: come on now, u can tell me

ST: stuff

TOC: like?

ST: this doc thesis

TOC: and

ST: nothing more

TOC: liar

ST: ???

TOC: you’ve never complained about it b4

ST: *sigh*

TOC: come on, u know u want to tell me

ST: Lea thinks I’m crazy

TOC: Lea?

ST: my bf

TOC: thought that was me

ST: my other bf J

TOC: ic

How much should she tell him?  He was a stranger, yet not.  She’d chatted with him like this on a number of occasions, even flirted a bit when she felt particularly neglected by Travis.  She sighed out loud.  Travis with the blue eyes, and that hank of dark brown hair that flopped onto his forehead—god how she was going to miss him.  She was constantly pushing it out of his eyes when they were in bed.

ST: i need 2 break up with my b/f.

TOC: u do?

ST: *nod*

TOC: good

ST: ???

TOC:  4 me

ST: lol  rebound relationships never work

TOC: u have a point

ST: i just hate to do it

TOC: ???

ST: he’s a nice guy and when he’s here i feel special…important

TOC: u don’t now?

ST: no

TOC: u need to decide on a wigwam or a teepee.

ST: ???

TOC: u read right…a wigwam or teepee.

ST: ???

TOC: ur 2 tense  LOL

ST: ROFL

TOC: C? I can make u laugh.

ST: That u can.

TOC: *gently squeezes your shoulders, fingers kneading the muscles there*

ST: that would feel really good right now

TOC: so would other things

ST: ur a flirt.

TOC: yep  guilty

A wicked thought seized Sylvia.  Was it cheating if it was cyber?  Oh hell, what did she care?  She was breaking up with Travis.  If he cared, he’d be with her, making her scream in an intense orgasm.  What harm could there be in a little cyber sex with TOC?  It was a step above self-pleasure.  How could she let him know she was willing to play tonight?  Maybe….

ST: pretty tired…a back rub would put me to sleep.

TOC: r u ready 4 bed?

ST: *nod*

TOC: whatcha wearin?

There.  This was an opening gambit.  He’d asked this on many occasions and she’d managed to ignore or deflect the question.

ST: tap pants

TOC: ???

ST: like Betty Boop shorts

TOC: is that all?

ST: a spaghetti strap matching top

TOC: color?

ST: pink

TOC: Mmm.  i love pink.  give up the pink to me sweet thing?

ST: tonight

TOC: oh baby!

ST: but i don’t want u 2 think im using u

TOC: use me baby, use me

ST: it’s just that our sex life is boring

TOC: won’t b with me

ST: i’ve never done this

TOC: cyber virgin…nice

ST: lol.  glad u think so

TOC: i do…really...u ready 2 begin?

ST: r u sure?

TOC: yes, i won’t think u used me

Sylvia sighed.  This was what she wanted, needed tonight.  To feel as if someone wanted her, even if it was just on a purely physical level.

ST: so, u like pink?

TOC: a very feminine, sexy color…what’s it made of?

ST: satin…nice and smooth, soft on my body.

TOC: i bet it hugs ur tits nicely

ST: drapes off them

TOC: r u hard?

ST: ???

TOC: nips…r they hard?

ST: not really

TOC: touch them…make them into…what do the romance novelists say?…O yea, `turgid peaks’

ST: LOL

TOC: r u doing it?

ST: no, but i will now

TOC: good…listen to TOC…i can make u cum.

Sylvia lifted her fingers from the keyboard and stroked her nipple.  Gradually the tip hardened.  Lightly she scratched against the satin, rewarded when a tiny tremor ran through her body.

ST: they r now

TOC: wish i could c

She flicked underneath the tip.  More electrifying sensations ran along her nerves and straight to her neglected core.

ST: wish u could 2

TOC:  how big r u

ST: big enuf i guess

TOC: u would fill my hands…i would suck yur hard nips…make u moan

ST: mmm

TOC: roll btween my fingers…pull...pinch...tease…suck u

Her fingers did what he suggested.  She pulled, pinched, teased the nipples.  Desire to be taken, driven hard consumed her.  Throwing back her head, she let a hand slide beneath the waistband of her tap pants.

INGREDIENTS

- 3/4 teaspoon fines herbes or herbes de Provence

- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

- 1 pound chicken tenders or 1 pound boneless skinless chickenbreast, cut into 8 equal pieces and pounded 1/2-inch thick

- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

- 3 tablespoons thinly sliced scallions or finely chopped parsley

Sauce Ingredients:

- 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons chicken broth

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 1 tablespoon

Dijon mustard

- 1 tablespoon honey

DIRECTIONS

Combine the herbs, garlic powder, salt and pepper and sprinkle some of the mixture over both sides of the chicken pieces. Coat a large nonstick skillet with the olive oil and preheat over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 2 minutes on each side, until nicely browned. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for about 3 minutes, turning once, until the chicken is cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside to keep warm. Combine the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and stir to mix. Add the sauce to the skillet and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for a minute or 2, stirring frequently, until reduced by half. To serve, place 2 chicken pieces on each of 4 serving plates, drizzle with some of the sauce, and top with a sprinkling of scallions or parsley. Serve hot.
